YEAR - 1993

In the year 1992-1993 Priyadarshni Academy continued with the good work of recognizing talent and achievement. The Academy distributed more than 5,000 kg, milk powder, 1,300 kg, rajma, 1,000 kg. cooking oil, and 250 kg. sugar to about 51 institutions in Bombay, Latur and other places in Maharashtra, Nutrition aid was given to Nair, KEM and Sion hospitals of Bombay which have adopted one municipal school each in the Cheeta Camp, Malvani and Dharavi slum areas. Nutrition aid will be stepped up substantially in the year 1993-1994.

Freeships and scholarships were given to needy deserving students to continue with their studies. Besides the scholarships awarded at the annual function to B.Ed., Engineering and Medical Students, financial aid of Rs. 5,500/was given to Mr. Milind Abaji Chavan of Wilson College, Bombay to continue with his first year Microbiology studies. A loan of Rs. 1,000/- taken by Mr. Chavan from Professor Narang, Head of the Microbiology department, Wilson College, Bombay was repaid as a goodwill gesture by the Academy. Mr. Mukesh N. lyer of the  Watumull  Institute of  Electronic  Engineering,  Bombay was sanctioned Rs. 5,000/-  to

continue with his project on Robotics. On completion Mr. lyer will be given the balance amount of Rs.2,500/-.

Mr. Rajashekar Swamy, a second year student of Marathwada University (B. E. Electronics and Communication) was sanctioned Rs. 2,500/- to continue with his studies, on completion of which he will be paid a second instalment of Rs, 2,500/-.

Ms. Saswatti Dutta Roy, a second year student of Jadavpur University, Calcutta was awarded Rs. 5,0001- at a glittering function at the Raj Bhavan, Bombay on 23-10-1992. She successfully fought against the eve-teasers in spite of constant threats from them and got justice. Mr. C. Subramaniam, Governor of Maharashtra, Mr. Madhu Mehta, Chairman of Hjndustan Andolan and Mr. R. C. Sheopuri, Executive Vice-President, Indian Express were present on the occasion, as also Saswatti's parents.

A music programme 'Folk Music to Classical Music' was organised on 18-11-92 by the Marathi wing of Priyadarshni Academy to commemorate the birth centenaries of late Mr. Vishnupant Damle, late Mr. Vishnupant Pagnis and late Mr. ShiMam Vashikar. Felicitations were accorded to Dr. Jabbar Patel, director of the film Ek Hota Vidushak and Mr. Vijay Kondke, producer of the film Maherchi Saadi. Rs, 11,000/- was presented to Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Chirapat Mahamandal towards sponsorship of the programme by the Academy.

In its support of drug de-addiction programmes, the Academy paid Rs. 7,000/ - to the BEST Undertaking to paint a bus with anti-drug messages and slogans.

Felicitations were accorded to Dr. Mohanbhai Patel, Ms. Hema Malini, Mr. Govindrao Adik for their contribution to society.

Tgwhanja Sindhi accorded felicitations to eminent personalities of the community, including Mr. Nanik Rupani. The three other personalities were Mr. Kundandas Rohra, Chairman, World Sindhi Congress, Mr. Nari Gursahani, President, International Sindhi Panchayat, and Mr. Ashok Hinduja, Director, Hinduja Group of Companies.

The Science and Technology Committee was established on 2-3-1993 with the appointment of Dr. Venkatavardan, Director of Nehru Planetarium, Bombay, as Chairman of the Committee.

Members of the Academy met Prime Minister Mr. P V. Narsimha Rao and presented a memorandum of authentic demands of the Sindhi community. Members of the Academy also met Dr. P C. Alexander to invite him to preside at the Ninth Annual Awards function.

Mr. Nanik Rupani was invited as Chief Guest and Guest of Honour at various functions, when he addressed the gatherings and expounded his philosophy of success - Dream, Think, Plan, Organize, Implement, Supervise.

The Three Japanese principles of success are also to be implemented:
Kaizen - continuous improvement
Team Work - effective delegation of responsibility for collective effort
Kamuchi - building long lasting friendships (the human touch to professionalism)

Peace and health are major concerns of Priyadarshni Academy. The Prajapita Brahmakumaris' Ishwariya Vishwa Vidyalaya, Napean Sea Road Branch, organized a seminar on World Peace and Harmony. Mr. Nanik Rupani praised the world-wide, diligent and dedicated work of the organization.

A book on health, Mewanji Mahma was released by Mr. Nanik Rupani, Chief Guest at the function organised by Nature Cure Sahitya Prachar Mandal, compered by Mr. Ramkrishin Advani. Dr. K. M. Modi, Dr. Fateh Manghimalani and Mr. Lokumal Manghnani also addressed the gathering.

Tree plantation, protection of environment, use of furniture made from nonwood materials, essay and art competitions were other activities for the year,

Aid to victims of the Latur earthquake and Bombay riots was immediate and substantial.

School fees continue to be given to Mr. Shewakramani for his three children.

Mr. Rupani visited the SGI institutions during his business visit to Japan.
